Mary, Our Lady of Ephesus

Newsletter - July 2008

Dear Friends,

We would like to take this time to thank all of you who have come to visit here at Our Lady of Ephesus House of Prayer this past year. We especially want to thank all who have traveled to come and pray at the replica of the Blessed Mother's last home. As you can probably imagine the House of Prayer has been very busy since the completion of the replica. This past year, from June 2007 to June 2008, we have been blessed with 157 Masses and 187 priest visits. There has been a Bishop from Cuba, a Bishop from Tanzania and of course Archbishop Emeritus Guiseppe Bernardini who now lives in Italy. Not bad for our little State of Vermont. We had a beautiful midnight Mass this past Christmas Eve with a little eggnog cheer after Mass. Easter Mass was wonderful. We even had a teenager volunteer to help Father as his altar server, a sure sign we are growing in the right direction. Afterwards everyone stayed for coffee and cake. I was so happy when one of the little children came and asked if we had hot chocolate, and we did in fact have some!!

Last July Maggi and her husband Jerry Greene were visiting from Florida. They were renting a house in Wardsboro, VT for the month and noticed the sign for Our Lady of Ephesus House of Prayer on Rte.100. They came for a visit and we became good friends right away. Maggie mentioned her godfather was a priest and was coming up from Massachusetts that weekend. She asked if it would be alright for her to bring him by for a visit. It was a Saturday around 5:00pm when they came and after our little tour Father asked if we would like him to say Mass the next morning for us at the House of Prayer. Of course we said yes. I made my normal calls to our neighbors to let them know. I think Father was surprised to see fifteen or so of our friends at Mass the next morning with such little notice. Father Darling continued to come and say Mass for us on Sundays for the rest of the month. When Maggie and Gerry went back to Florida at the end of the month Father said he would be happy to continue to come and say Mass for us on the third and forth Sundays of the month as long as the roads were good. He has been coming ever since. I let him know if we have a visiting priest scheduled for the weekend and if we don't Fr. Darling graciously comes. What a wonderful blessing he has been for all of us. We all look forward to our Sunday morning coffee and brunches! Thank you Father.

We have also been blessed with our dear friend Father Stephen who has been coming and bringing pilgrims for New Jersey since his first year of ordination. It has now been five years. In the past he could only come on weekdays so he would be back at his parish for the weekends but now he has been assigned to a hospital in New Jersey and has every other Sunday available for visits. He brings a full house with him at least once a month. We in Vermont have made so many good friends through Fr. Stephen. Thanks Father!! We love having you!!!
